Betty Jean Mauldin Allison, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and faithful servant of the Lord, entered into the joy of her Savior on Good Friday evening, April 18, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family. She was 84 years old.
Born on March 20, 1941, to Earl and Mary Wilson Mauldin, Betty was the youngest of nine children. Growing up in a loving and close-knit family, she cherished her time with her siblings and formed bonds that would last a lifetime. Throughout her life, Betty was known for her radiant singing voice, a gift that touched the lives of many as she sang at revivals, weddings, and funerals throughout the community.
Betty worked as a secretary for the Bank of Hiawassee and RCCI in Cleveland, GA, where she made lasting friendships and exemplified the admonition given in Colossians 3:23, “Whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord.” As a lifelong member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Hiawassee, GA, Betty’s love for God, His Word, and His house was the foundation of her life.
She is survived by her devoted husband of 48 years, Buddy Allison, daughter, Karon (Chal) Davis, and son Leo (Lynne) Abernathy; grandchildren Amber (Contrel) Neal, Ryan (Katelin) Davis, Ricky Davis, and Kerri Abernathy; great-grandchildren, Judah Neal, Noah Neal, Skylar Davis, Micah Neal, Neyland Davis, Katie Lyvers, John Oliver Davis, Allison “Eden Grace” Neal, LeeAnn Davis, and Emersyn Davis. Betty is also survived by her beloved sister, Nell Sloan, and sisters-in-law Margie Mauldin and Lillian Mauldin, as well as several nephews, nieces, and other family members.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents and seven of her siblings: Horace Mauldin, Ronald Mauldin, Donald Mauldin, Hazel Abernathy, Max Mauldin, Darold Mauldin, and Jarold “Pete” Mauldin.
The family will receive friends at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Hiawassee, GA, on Tuesday, April 22, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church on Wednesday, April 23, at 2:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Ryan Davis, Ricky Davis, Timothy Mauldin, James Tallent, David Tallent, and Edwin Adams. Honorary Pallbearers are Brent Mauldin, Lynn Mauldin, Dave Durham, and Harold Allison.
Betty’s life was a beautiful testimony of God’s love and grace, and we celebrate that she is now forever whole and full of joy in the presence of the Lord.
“Nevertheless, You are continually with me: Thou hast holden me by my right hand. Thou shalt guide me with Thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.” Psalm 73:23-24
