Buddy, 89, was born in Key West, FL, and raised in Miami, FL, died August 1, 2023 at 3:10pm at his home in Young Harris. Preceding him in death are his parents, Burrell and Esperanza (Hope) Rodriguez Atchison of Miami, FL, and his sister, Olga Theresa Atchison Fisher, of Tavares, FL. He leaves his wife, Teresa Ann Reinhardt Atchison, of Young Harris, GA; daughters Laurie G. Atchison of Garland, TX, and Lisa G. Atchison of Richardson, TX; his grand-children, Nicholas Foley (Berenice) Buckley and Claire Elisabeth Buckley also of Garland, TX; his nephew Chris Fisher (Deana) of Leesburg, FL and niece Rhonda Fisher (Larry) Gilliard of Deland, FL. Buddy retired from the City of Miami Fire Department in 1987, after 35 years as a fireman/paramedic – he was also a policeman with Miami from 1957 to 1960. He was one of the first paramedics in Miami and in the country. He dabbled in some modeling and acting. His love was of the ocean, where he collected beautiful specimens of shells as a hobby. As a teenager, his favorite thing to do was to play his trumpet. He enjoyed reading and listening to classical music. He was a talented sketch artist. He always loved to tell stories of his experiences with the fire department, and living in Miami and Key West in the 1930’s and 1940’s, especially during WWII. He was witty and had a sense of humor.
Viewing will be on Sunday, August 6, 2023 from 6pm to 8pm at Banister Funeral Home, Hiawassee, and a graveside service will be held at Laurel Hills Memorial Gardens, Young Harris, GA, August 7, 2023, at 11am.
