Mrs. Cecile Kelley, age 94 of Young Harris, GA passed away on Thursday, October 04, 2012 following period of declining health. She was born to the late Charlie D. and Lydia (Dyer) Corn on August 19,1918 in Young Harris, GA. She was preceded in death by husband, Jack Kelley, son, Charles Burdette, a sister, Ellen Nelms, and a brother C.D. Corn. She was a member of Eastern Star, a former Young Harris City Councilman, and she was the interim Mayor of Young Harris. She and other ladies custom designed a quilt that hung in the Governors Mansion in Atlanta during Zell Millers term. She was a founding member of Towns County Chamber of Commerce. She is survived by one daughter, Ann Powell, of Summerfield, NC; son, Richard Kelley, of Hayesville, NC; John, Kelley, of Young Harris, GA and Mike Kelley, of Young Harris, GA; Otis Burdette, of Young Harris, GA; twenty grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, two great, great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 07, 2012 at 2:00 from Old Union Baptist Church with Rev. Jimmy Rogers and Kevin Moss officiating. Music is provided by Eagle Mtn. Quartet. Pallbearers were: Jack Kelley, John Walter Kelley, Jr., Preston Powell, Josh Kelley, Parker Powell and Clint Smith. Honorary pallbearers: Kenny Rogers, Wade Patterson and Larry Hooper. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to Old Union Baptist Church in Young Harris, GA or Friendship Baptist Church in Hiawassee, GA. Interment is in Old Union Baptist Church cemetery. Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge of arrangements.
