Charlene Dockery Mathis

Charlene Dockery Mathis, age 72, of Hiawassee, Georgia passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at her home surrounded by her family. Charlene was born September 20, 1950 in Blairsville, Georgia to the late Elmer and Lennie Bell (Long) Dockery. Charlene was a God fearing woman who loved the Lord and her Church. She was a member at Enotah Baptist Church and over the years taught Sunday School to many children and also VBS. She daily showed dignity, grace, courage, patience, devotion, wisdom, and generosity to others around her. She also loved gardening and working in her flowers but above all loved spending time with her family. Charlene was a graduate of UCHS and North Georgia Tech with her Certified Medical Assistant degree. 

She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Walter Dockery. She is survived by her husband of over 52 years, Dennis Mathis; daughters and son in law, Andrea (Ricky) Smith and Melanie (Michael) Dunn; grandchildren, Natalie Smith, Braden Smith, Ethan Dunn, Corbin Dunn; sisters, Alwayne (Ray) Brown, Catherine (Stanley) Gibson; brothers, Clifford (Edna) Dockery, Wade (Donna) Dockery, Leon Dockery(Debbie Grooms), Gerald Dockery; sister in law, Marlene Nicholson; many nieces and nephews and a host of family and friends that will miss her dearly.

Visitation: Sunday, May 21, 2023 at Banister-Cooper Funeral Home from 12:30-3:00pm.

Funeral Service: May 21, 2023 at Banister-Cooper Funeral Home at 3:00pm with Rev. Donnie Jarrard officiating. Interment will follow at Enotah Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Garry Holcomb, Larry Holcomb, Truett Spiva, Doug Gibson, Shannon Dockery, Tracy Dockery.

Honorary Pallbearers: Bruce Spiva, Ray Jones, Kenny Barrett, Herman Swanson.
