Danny Reid Wood

Danny "Reid" Wood, age 44 of Hiawassee, Georgia passed away Monday, December 11, 2023. Reid was born September 18, 1979 in Hiawassee, Georgia to Bobbie Hogsed and the late Patrick Wood. Reid belonged to several associations and cutting futurites. He was a "Horse Whisper" , a natural horseman. He used principles of a kinder and more gentle cowboy technique to develop a rapport with the horses he trained. He was known in the local community and throughout the United States, including horses sent to him from Texas, Tennessee, and Arkansas. He has trained and broken many horses at his stables "RW Stables". In high school he won the Georgia State Champion of GHSRA in 1990. In 2008 he was hired by Alice Walton (heir to the Walmart fortune) to train her horses where she raised champion-line cutting horses for approximately three years. He returned home to care for his grandmother and father who were ill. Reid loved his horse "Spanky" for thirty years which he used to compete in many places.

 

He is preceded in death by his father, Patrick Wood; grandparents, Tom and Helen Wood; grandfather, Bruce Hogsed; uncle, Ivan Hogsed. He is survived by his mother, Bobbie (Jack) Hogsed; sons, Cody Wood, Calvin Wood; grandparents, E.J. and Charlotte Garett, Helen Hogsed; brothers, Benjamin (Katie) Hogsed, Matthew (Kristen) Hogsed; nephews, Tate Hogsed and Weston Miller; niece, Addi Hogsed; numerous aunts, uncles and extended family that will miss him dearly.

The Hogsed family would like to thank A.J. Hamilton (Reids good friend for many years) for all of his help and support in this trying time.

 

Visitation: Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Banister-Cooper Funeral Home from 12:00-2:00pm

Memorial Service: Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Banister-Cooper Funeral Home at 2:00pm with Rev. Ben Hogsed officiating.

The family invites everyone to come following the service to join them for a meal at the civic center.
