Dr. Martin Lanier McRoberts

August 14, 1941 — September 4, 2024

Dr. Martin L. McRoberts went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, September 4, 2024 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Braselton, Georgia. Martin, “Marty”, was born on August 14, 1941 in Jackson, Mississippi to Claude E. McRoberts and Sara Martin McRoberts. Martin’s sister Betty (Hollingsworth) resides in Lafayette, Louisiana and he is predeceased by brother, Claude E McRoberts II.

Marty graduated from Murrah High School in 1958 and went on to become a proud Rebel at the University of Mississippi. Marty was a member of Phi Delta Fraternity and majored in pre-med. He continued his education at the University of Mississippi Medical School. Following medical school graduation, he served in the United States Navy and was a flight surgeon on an aircraft carrier.

At a Labor Day party in 1969 he met Kaye Cooke in Jacksonville Florida. They were married in Jacksonville on June 6, 1970. Marty had always wanted to live in California so they moved to San Bernadino, California in 1971 where he began his residency in Family Practice medicine. Devoted to helping people and his profession he worked non stop hours as an emergency room physician and private practice in Arroyo Grande and Santa Maria.

Marty and Kaye missed their families in the South, so in 1983 they moved to Albany, Georgia to be closer to relatives. Marty opened a private practice, eventually retiring from Joseph Candler Hospital in Savannah in 2010.

Marty loved his family, his pets, tennis, pickleball and Ole Miss football! Most of all, he loved the Lord.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kaye, three daughters Julie Chahboune (Driss), Kristina Bernard (Keith) and Leslie Harriott (Tim). He has four grandchildren, Leila Chahboune, Mina Chahboune, Thomas Bernard and Cameron Bernard. He is survived by an older sister, Betty Hollingsworth.

Dr. Martin “Marty” McRoberts will be laid to rest at Osborne Cemetery in Hiawassee, GA on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 11:00 am following a graveside memorial service attended by family and friends.
