Eldon Arrowood, affectionately known as “Papaw” to his granddaughter, left for his heavenly home on February 3rd, 2025. A native to Hiawassee, he was born December 8th, 1958, and was the youngest child of the late Earl and Lizzie (Berrong) Arrowood from the Hightower area. In addition to his parents, Eldon is preceded in death by his brothers Ernest Arrowood and Everett Arrowood, as well as sisters, Leta Mae Garrett, Linda Hammond, Lillian Taylor, and Lois Collins.
Watching football and westerns were two of Eldon’s favorite hobbies, and he wasn’t often interrupted during his favorite daytime soap opera. He had a great sense of humor which continued even while in the hospital (where he charmed the nurses).
Eldon enjoyed riding up Swallows Creek and spending time with those he loved. He often spoke of how he cared for Megan when she was young and taught her how to count dollars and change. Their walks together held a special place in his heart.
Eldon is survived by his son, Jeremy Arrowood (Ashley), and granddaughter Megan; brothers Edwin (Mavis), Emmitt (Dianna), and Elliott (Pam) Arrowood. Two loving sisters also survive him: Lucy Oakes and Lannie (David) Ledford as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
As per Eldon’s wishes, he will be cremated, and no formal funeral service will be held. However, an informal visitation for close friends and family will take place on Saturday, February 8th, 10 am-12 pm at Banister-Cooper Funeral Home.
