Flonnie Mae Hughes, age 88, of Young Harris Georgia passed away on Tuesday May 24, 2022 at Union General Hospital. She was born in Towns County on May 23, 1934. Flonnie loved reading, writing poetry, spending time with family and friends, and being a faithful member of Old Union Baptist Church in Young Harris. She was preceded in death by her parents Vaughn William Hughes Sr. and Maebelle Thomas Hughes, her sisters Beatrice Clark, Lois Corn, Norma Jean Galloway, and her brother, Vaughn ‘Bud’ William Hughes Jr. She is survived by sister Elsie Hughes Nelson,sister-in-law Jeannette Coker Hughes, and many nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, and other relatives. Flonnie spent the majority of her life in Towns County. She loved her childhood years shared with 5 siblings and all their adventures of growing up in the country.
As an adult, she worked as a secretary and a seamstress but found her greatest reward in serving as the sole caregiver for her parents. Flonnie loved the Lord and lived her life to honor Him. Devoted to her family, friends and church – all those touched by this relationship felt blessed to call her family or friend. Flonnie
possessed a very sharp mind and a great sense of humor which brought abundant times of joy to those who loved her.
