Hiawassee

Reverend Forrest Jarvis Bennett, Jr. passed away peacefully with his beloved family by his side on Wednesday, August 28th at the age of 79. The oldest son of the late Forrest and Josephine Bennett, he was born in Atlanta, GA on July 23, 1945 and was raised in Clayton, GA. 

Jarvis met his beloved wife, Grace Stancil Bennett, while classmates at Rabun County High School. They were married on April 26, 1963. 

Jarvis worked as a builder and carpenter for 17 years. He accepted his calling into the ministry and was the pastor of Mount Pleasant Church of God in Hiawassee, GA for 25 years. Jarvis attended Lee College and was an ordained Bishop in the Church of God. Jarvis’ life was defined by the passion he had for sharing the gospel of Christ and having a vision for reaching youth. His teachings emphasized love, forgiveness, and the importance of living a life of purpose and integrity.

Jarvis is survived by his wife, Grace, his daughters and son-in-laws, Tina and Wayne Burrell of Clermont, GA and Aundrea and Brad Wilson of Hiawassee, GA, his grandchildren, Kellan Burrell (Madison) of Tucker, GA, Madisen Cope (Christian) of Woodstock, GA, Claire Davenport (Houston) of Tallassee, AL, and Brady Wilson of Hiawassee, GA, and great grandchildren, Annabelle Burrell and Haegan Davenport, brothers Gary (Gail) Bennett of Otto, NC, Clay (Veeda) Bennett of Tiger, GA and Scott Bennett of Clayton, GA; and a host of nieces and nephews. 

Jarvis was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Josephine Bennett, and his brother, Steve Bennett. 

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 31st at Mount Pleasant Church of God in Hiawassee, GA. Visitation will be from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm with a service following. Burial will follow at Rabun Memorial Park in Tiger, GA.

Pastor Jarvis leaves behind a legacy of faith, hope, and love. His life was a beacon of light and he was an inspiration to all who knew him. He is now at peace in the presence of the Lord where his spirit will forever shine.
