Mrs. Gaynell Norton Barrett, age 81, of Hiawassee, Georgia went to be with her father in heaven on Wednesday, March 25, 2020. Gaynell was born August 18, 1938 in Hiawassee, Georgia to the late Mr. Ernest and Mrs. May (Hooper) Norton. Prior to going into Chatuge Regional Nursing Home she attended church at First Baptist Church in Young Harris, Georgia. She and her late husband enjoyed working in their yard, gardening, canning and putting puzzles together with each other. Gaynell especially loved her flowers. She was a doting grandmother who enjoyed going to her grandchildren's sporting events, dance recitals and school activities. One of her favorite times was the yearly extended  family gathering where everyone enjoyed a day of visiting and eating. Gaynell's nephew took her on the very first and only motorcycle ride at the age of 77. She is preceded in death by husband, Lucius Barrett; brothers, Hubert, Troy and Claude Norton; and sister, Maona Turpin. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Gail and Larry Lee of Brasstown, North Carolina; sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Marcia of Blairsville, GA, Jeff and Theresa of Gainesville, GA;  grandchildren and their spouses, Brandon and Ashley Lee, Stephanie and Daniel Hickox, Shawn and Amber Barrett, and Betsy and Ashley Barrett; great grandchildren, Caleb, Riley Kate, Malachi, Evie, Jude and Grace Lee; Charlotte and Colston Hickox and Amelia Davis; and brother, Ernest Norton Jr. 
Pallbearers: Brandon Lee, Shawn Barrett, Daniel Hickox, Sammy Hughes, Caleb Lee and Jody Norton 
Service officiated by Mr. Jonathon Norton, Mrs. Barrett's nephew. 
Due to the current state of emergency there will be a private service for Mrs. Barrett. Cards may be mailed to P.O. Box 161, Young Harris, GA 30582. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donation to the Old Brasstown Cemetery at 6268 State Highway 339, Young Harris, Georgia 30582 or to the Alzheimers Association at www.ALZ.org.
