Horace Lanier O'Kelley

Horace Lanier O'Kelley, after several years of declining health, passed away at approximately 7:30 P.M., March 10, 2016. He passed away peacefully in his Hiawassee, GA home, just as he had stated to be his desire. During the last several years, Mr. O'Kelley had struggled with diabetes and much of what it brings, but maintained a good outlook on life. He was born on July 13, 1927 to the late Thomas Loyd and Vera (Williams) O’Kelley in Lilburn, Georgia. He was preceded by the passing of His wife, Julia Juanita Noblett O'Kelley on April 10, 1977.
He later remarried Wanda Nicholson and moved from Lilburn, GA to Hiawassee, GA, where he operated O'Kelley Hardware Store and Flea-market for many years. He leaves behind his wife, Wanda O'Kelley, 2 sons, 4 daughters, 1 step-son, 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild, and a host of friends. Visitation was held on Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Banister Funeral Home from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Services were held on Sunday, March 13, 2016 at 3:00 PM with the Reverend Ronnie Coffee officiating. The graveside service was held on Monday, March 14, 2016 at 2:00 PM at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Duluth, Ga. Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee, GA in charge of arrangements.
