Mrs. Irene Cathrine Logan McNeil Pierce, age 86, of Jonesboro Georgia passed away peacefully at home on Friday, May 5, 2023. Irene was born in Greenock Scotland to the late John and Isabell (Miller) McNeil on October 30, 1936.
Irene AKA Nana is preceded in death by her above mentioned parents; children Diane Pierce, Keith Pierce and Carlene Brook-Pierce. She is survived by her children Sheryll Hutchins, Lisa Pierce, Gary Pierce, Jonathon Pierce; brother Ian McNeill; 16 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, 11 great great grandchildren; along with a host of extended family and friends.
Irene was raised in a strong Christian home that was dedicated first to the Lord Jesus Christ, family, Salvation Army Church, and their country. After attendending Greenock High School she went to Nursing School. She lived an exciting and fun life as a young adult. At the age of 20 She fell for an American Sailor and was wed then moved to America. After roughly 20 years of marriage Irene had to start all over again with 6 kids alone. She found employment as a Winston Girl at a local Answering Service, Winston Communications. Where she worked her way up to be the manager. Winston Communications, sold out and brought in their own management team. Irene decided then to take her skill and knowledge of the answering service in her own hands. She started Pointe South Telecommunications in Jonesboro Ga. in 1982. This business has changed names over the years but still facilitates employment, services, and community services for many still today.
In 1991 the Salvation Army Jonesboro Corps opened and Irene was finally able to return to her spiritual roots as she was commissioned as the first soldier at the Jonesboro Corps. She served as the Corps Secretary startong on 07/23/2014 , plus the (Women’s Ministries) Home League on 03/23/2015 and served on the Advisory Board as a local business owner as well.
Celebration of Life: Saturday the 13th at 3 p.m. The Promotion to Glory will be at the Salvation Army Church in Jonesboro, 130 Spring St, Jonesboro, GA 30236.
