James âJimmyâ Elliot Brown, age 76 of Hiawassee, GA went home to be with the Lord on December 10, 2011, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on October 25, 1935 in Hiawassee, GA to Ross and Gertrude (Cunningham) Brown. He was preceded in death by his mother Gertrude (Cunningham) Brown in 1990 and father Ross Brown in 2001.
Jimmy grew up in Hiawassee, GA and was a 1953 graduate of Towns County High School. He was self-employed many years as a heavy equipment owner/operator, service station owner and was also employed by the state of Georgia to train others on the use of heavy equipment. Jimmy was the mayor of the city of Hiawassee for twelve years and was instrumental in the implementation of the first volunteer fire department and sewer system in the city. He logged over 1 million miles, accident free as and OTR truck driver. He was also owner of James Brown Rock Yard from 1998 until recently.
He enjoyed trout fishing, hiking, backpacking, history and most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. He was of the Baptist faith, and a member of McConnell Memorial Baptist Church.
Jimmy is survived by his loving wife of fifty-two years Patsy, three daughters, Lynne Abernathy and husband Leo, Lisa Penland and husband Keith, Lana Parker and husband Kevin, three grandchildren, Kerri Abernathy, Luke Parker and Jacob Parker, one sister, Susan B. Colvard, all of Hiawassee, GA. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held of Monday, December 12, 2011 at 11:00 AM from the chapel of Banister Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Rogers and Rev. Dewayne Beck officiating. Special music was provided by Raven Welch. Pallbearers were: Mike Allen, David Brock, Charles Cunningham, William Cunningham, Mark Ledbetter and Jimmy Taft. Honorary pallbearers were James Nicholson, James, Jones and Jeff Waldroup. Interment was in Osborn cemetery. Banister Funeral Home of Hiawassee in charge of arrangements.
