James R Plott

Mr. James Ralph Plott, (better known as Ralph Plott) age 79 of Lawrenceville, GA passed away on Monday, April 14, 2008 following a brief illness. He was born to the late Benjamin "Newt" and Irene (Thomas) Plott on August 08, 1928 in Towns County, GA. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Leora Plott of the home; two daughters and sons-in-law, Deborah & Tom Hopkins, of Lawrenceville, GA; Cynthia & Miles Duke, of Atlanta, GA; two granddaughters, Alexandra and Elizabeth Duke, both of Atlanta, GA; and a number of nieces and nephews also survive. He joined the US Navy when he was nineteen years old. He served aboard the cruisers, USS Baltimore, USS Albany, USS Boston and USS Galveston. He retired from the US Navy with twenty years of service. While in the Navy, he became interested in woodworking and made a lot of their furniture and continued woodworking when he retired in Gwinnett County, just out of Lawrenceville, GA. While in the service, he married, as he liked to say, "a farm girl from Oklahoma, Leora Loesch. They had two children, Deborah and Cynthia born in the Portsmouth Naval Hospital, VA. After Ralph retired from the Navy, he still liked to work with wood, so with his two brothers, Frank Plott and Bill Plott, they formed Plott Home Builders building homes in Gwinnett County. After he retired from home building, he made furniture for several churches in the Lawenceville area his greatest pride being making crosses and other items for church crafts. He also gave many away. Every year as the seed catalogs would come out, he started making plans for his garden and remembering his youth planting and harvesting beans in the mountains of Young Harris, GA. He loved to share his bounty. But most of all, he loved his family and researching the Plott genealogy. He will be greatly missed, but the good Lord called him home, his work here was done. Funeral services were held on Friday, April 18, 2008 at 1:00 PM from Old Union Baptist Church in Young Harris, GA with Rev. Jimmy Hogsed officiating.
