Johnny Dillard McCray, age 81 of Hayesville, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at Chatuge Regional Hospital. Johnny was born on May 17, 1940 in Hayesville, North Carolina to the late Mr. and Mrs. Nathan and Jesse (Russell) McCray. Johnny is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ruby (Mull) McCray; daughter, Rose Patterson; granddaughter, Breanna Patterson; sisters and brothers-in-law, Jennifer and Boyd Stroud, Konda Byers; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jacky and Connie McCray, Tommy and Freida McCray, Jimmy and Donna McCray; along with a number of nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. He is preceded in death by his above mentioned parents; sisters, Frances Walker, Brenda Hanes, Evelyn Cotheran, Shirley Gibson and Ruth Glisie; brother, Arlin McCray; and brother-in-law, Monroe Byers. Johnny was a devoted husband; he and Mrs. Ruby married in June of 1967. He loved to hunt deer, rabbits, and just about anything else. He enjoyed camping and being outside. He taught himself to play the banjo and guitar. He was a funny, laid back kind of gentleman who was always calm and didn't get bothered about much of anything. He will be deeply missed by all.

Funeral: Thursday, November 11, 2021 at 2:00PM in the chapel of Banister-Cooper Funeral Home with Rev. Aud Brown.
Pallbearers: Thomas Garrison, Matthew McCray, Terry Butler, Allen Mull, Scotty Mull, and Marvin Mull.
