Lula Mae Hunter, age 95, of Hiawassee, GA passed away Thursday, June 11, 2020. She was born in Tate City on March 18, 1925 to the late John and Lula (Eller) Nicholson. After losing her husband Claud Hunter to cancer after 32 years of marriage she worked at the Towns County Nursing Home for 20 years. She was a member of Lower Bell Creek Baptist Church and loved reading her Bible and devotions, gardening and spending time with her family. Lula Mae loved God and loved sharing her faith with anyone that would listen. In recent years her favorite past-time was listening to gospel music and working Bible puzzles. Her greatest desire was for her family and friends to accept Jesus Christ as their personal savior. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, neighbor and friend and she touched many lives. She will be greatly missed.
Lula Mae is preceded in death by her husband, Claud William Hunter; parents, John and Lula Nicholson; daughter, Phyllis Reneè Hunter; two brothers and five sisters.
She is survived in death by 9 children, 7 daughters and 2 sons; Celia and Larry Baxter, Carolyn O'Dell, Deborah Ballentine, Anthony "Speed" and Ruby Hunter, Jane Henson, Lynda Garmon, June and Roger Krueger, Alden and Mattie Hunter and Sherri and Tim McClure; sister and brother-in-law, Jeanette and Buck Melton; eleven grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren along with a host of extended family and friends.
Visitation: Friday, June 12, 2020 at Banister-Cooper Funeral Home 5:00PM-8:00PM.
Funeral: Saturday, June 13, 2020 in the chapel of Banister-Cooper Funeral Home at 11:00AM with Rev. Harold Stiles, Rev. Brian Satterfield and Rev. Mark Stuart officiating. Music provided by Mission Hill Church Choir.
Pallbearers: Chris Henson, Mitch Garmon, Josh Caraballo, Chris Harwell, Robby Nichols and Brandon O'Dell.
Banister-Cooper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for Mrs. Hunter.
