Age 74, Lynda Bernhardt passed away in the presence of her loving husband of 55 years, David on the evening of October 13th. Preceded in death by parents, Roy Lynch and Nettie Rickes and sister Jeanette Potter. Survived by her husband David and loving children Nathan (Tiffany) and Nicole Urbanski (Andrew) and grandchildren, Scarlett and Rylan Bernhardt and Jodie and Abram Urbanski.
Born in Austin Texas, Lynda cris-crossed the country as the adopted daughter of a lifetime military man, Louis Rickes, and resided in Washington, Montana, Atlanta, and even Germany. After marriage to her high school sweetheart, Lynda continued her adventuresome ways moving to Missouri, Texas, Miami, Tennessee, Mississippi, before finally “settling” in Young Harris. She spent most of her professional career working for the airline industry where she was able to enjoy her love of travel; a quality she passed on to her children.
She and David loved music and she would sometimes sit in on a song or two at the Tusquittee Tavern in Hayesville. Her musical talent was not her only gift as she was an amazing seamstress, crafting prom dresses, baptismal gowns, and first communion outfits for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed knitting, crafting, and cooking.
Lynda will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. The family would like to thank Father Mario Lopez from St. Francis of Assisi, and the EMTs/hospital staff at Chatuge Regional Hospital for their caring and professional care in her final hours.
Visitation Tuesday, October 19th, at Banister-Cooper Funeral Home at 5-7 PM, and funeral at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Blairsville on Wednesday the 20th at 3 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee.
Banister-Cooper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for Mrs. Bernhardt.
