Mattie Olive Carlin

Mattie Carlin, 88, passed away at Hayesville House  on May 5, 2024. 

Mattie was born to John and Ora Smith in Fairfield, Illinois, the 3rd of 8 children.
She attended Monticello and Bement schools along with her sister, Effie.
Following graduation from Monticello High School in 1954, she completed
her training as a nurse at Roselawn Hospital in Chicago in 1958 and
obtained her Registered Nurse's license the same year.
Mattie married Rod Carlin on August 20, 1958 at St. Micheal's Church
in Bement. They had three children: Kathleen (deceased), John (Kim),
and Patricia (Doug). Five grandchildren and three great grandchildren
remain in several different locations.
She was a good wife and mother and a hard worker. Mattie made friends
wherever she went. Her beautiful smile melted the hearts of every hard
case she ever had to confront.
Mattie's ashes will be laid to rest at the Carlin family plot in Bement at a later date.
