Robert Lamar Barrett

Robert "Lamar" Barrett, age 78 passed away at his home in Young Harris, Georgia on Thursday, November 9, 2023. Lamar was born in Toccoa, Georgia to the late Mr. and Mrs. William and Kathyrine Barrett on June 2, 1945. He was a member of Old Union Baptist Church and was married to Mrs. Lynn Wimpy for over 31 years. Lamar was truly a hometown hero; he joined the United States Army in 1964 at the age of nineteen and served for twenty years. While in the Army he received several awards including a Good Conduct Medal, the Vietnam Campaign Ribbon, and a badge as a rifle expert. He retired and spent his later days in his home in Young Harris with his lovely wife. In his spare time he enjoyed racing his 1991 Ford Mustang 347 stroker with nitrous on the drag strips. 

 

He is preceded in death by his above-mentioned parents; brothers, Bill and Charles Barrett; stepson, Daren King and daughter-in-law, Sabrina King. He is survived by wife, Lynn Wimpy Barrett; son, Matt Barrett; stepson and daughter-in-law, Faron and Rebecca King; brother, Oscar Barrett; grandson and wife, Christian and Heidi Barrett. 

 

Banister-Cooper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for Mr. Barrett.

Funeral Service: Sunday, November 12, 2023 at Old Union Baptist Church at 2:00pm
