Roy J. Lockaby

Mr. Roy J. Lockaby, age 92 of Blairsville, GA. formerly of Hiawassee GA, passed away on August 26th, 2013. Roy was born on April17th, 1921 in Towns County GA. He was a member of Blairsville Church of God and formerly North Mt. Zion Church of God. Roy worked with the GA Department of Transportation for almost 30 years. He enjoyed attending church, fishing, and was an avid Atlanta Braves fan. He is preceded in death by his parents, Venlow and Laura Lockaby, his Wife Maggie Dayton Lockaby, one son Duel Lockaby, one granddaughter, Emily Ware and four sisters, Ettie Coleman, Edna Crane, Raye Owenby, and Ruth Plott. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Richard Carey of Blairsville, GA, son and daughter –in-law Jerle and Reba Lockaby of Rome, GA, son and daughter-in-law Merle and Maryruth Lockaby of Hayesville, NC and son Michael Lockaby of Douglasville, GA, grandsons ,Jeffrey Lockaby, Glynn Lockaby, and Jesse Carey. grandaughters, Dana Latasa, Jill Dixon, Jodi Ware and Sandra Triplet. ten great grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews, his church family and numerous friends survive. Funeral services were held Thursday, August 29th, 2013 from North Mt Zion Church of God with Rev Glenville Nichols, Rev. John Davis, Pastor Raburne Wilson, and Rev. Larry Hedden officiating. Music was provided by Donna Pendrey, Pastor Raburne Wilson and Nola Jean Nichols. Pallbearers were, Truitt and Truman Owenby, Lonnie and Larry Plott, Warren Bonner, and Jeff Walker. Interment was in Laurel Hills Memory Garden cemetery.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, Union County Chapter.
