Ruby Denton, loving and faithful mother, wife, grandmother and friend went home to be with her Lord on September 13th, 2016. She was surrounded by her family at the home of her daughter, Jean Nichols, who had lovingly cared for her over the past several years. She was precede in death by husband John Denton, daughter, Ruth Karen Jones, infant son, E.H. Denton, sisters Ree Willard, Willie Mae Taylor Spiva, Ruth Eller, brothers, Wesley, Truett, and Truman Foster and parents Oma Burrell and Gaither Wesley Foster.
Ruby is survived by her daughter, Betty Jean Nichols (Phil), son, Garry Dennis Denton (Lindy), grandchildren Jonathan Nichols, Jeremiah and Wesley Denton, Courtney Outler, Chad Jones and great-grandchildren A.J. and Gage Denton and Aaron Jones.
Ruby had a very special touch and caring nature. She took care of her elderly father-in-law, Damascus Denton, until his death, then took on the care of her own elderly and bedridden father and mother. She especially loved children and babies and began a 22 year career at Towns County Child Care. She was a wonderful cook and fed many children (and co-workers) delicious meals. She was particularly known for her sausage gravy and biscuits and chicken and dumplings. Parents were even known to “drop by” on the mornings “Mamaw’s biscuits were served.” At home, there was always a fresh pot of coffee and a homemade treat - cake, cobbler, cookies, or something equally yummy and a warm welcome. Ruby loved everyone and loved to have visitors come by to talk over old times and old friends. You could not visit without sharing stories and a little bite to eat. Everyone was a welcome guest in Ruby’s home. Ruby’s special love was her church family at Lower Hightower Baptist Church. She served as Young Adult Sunday School and Training Union (now Discipleship) for many, many years. Whenever there was an activity at the church, Ruby was there to help. As long as she was able, and sometimes when she wasn’t, she was faithful to take part in and help with church activities. It always grieved her to miss anything at church.
