Susan Lynn Hooper

April 19, 1960 — January 12, 2024

It is with great sorrow that the family of Susie Hooper announces her passing on January 12th, 2024 in Young Harris, GA at the age of 63. She was born on April 19th, 1960 in Young Harris, GA. Susie was preceded in death by both her father and mother, Lake and Lillian Hogsed.

Susie is survived by her devoted husband of 44 years, Wes Hooper; their cherished son and daughter-in-law, Heath and AnnMarie Hooper of Rome, GA, along with their beloved grandchildren Ty and Lilliann Hooper.

She leaves behind her sisters and brothers-in-law: Mary and Steve Payne of Hiawassee, GA, Nancy and Rudy Curtis of Columbia, SC; sister-in-law Patricia Smith; nieces and nephews Cory and McKenzie Payne, Brette and John Allen, Stephanie and Kyle Hite, Anthony and Melissa Curtis, many great nieces and nephews, and a circle of tight knit friends that she considered family.

Susie was a mother, a wife, a (Sue-Sue) to her grandchildren, and a friend to all. She was loved, admired and respected by everyone she met. Susie was incredibly practical and enjoyed the simple things in life. From being know as “Charlie” at the car lot with her daddy, Lake, to always finding a bargain at the local thrift stores. Growing up, she worked hard to take care of her family and to achieve her personal and professional goals.

Her career began at age 17 as a teller at The Bank of Hiawassee while still attending high school at Towns County High School. Susie dedicated 33 years to United Community Bank, and retired as a Senior Vice President and Human Resources Director at United Community Bank. She made a tremendous impact through the relationships she built with her coworkers.

Through all of her accomplishments, Susie’s happiest moments were being a wife for 44 years, a mother for 36 years and a Sue-Sue to her loving grandchildren!

The family wants to express their sincere gratitude for everyone that knew Susie over the years and have played a part in her life.
