Mr. Wayne Edward Murray, age 71 of Hiawassee, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2019 peacefully at his home after an extended illness. Wayne was born September 22, 1947 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas and Constance (Miller) Murray in New Castle, Pennsylvania. Wayne better known as “Pops” was a dedicated Christian and a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was what you might call a "Jack of all trades"; he was an aircraft mechanic for the United States Air Force, drove a truck for many years, was a painter and a sales representative. When he was not working he enjoyed going fishing, gardening and especially mowing his grass, a trait that he passed down to his son and grandson. He was a giving and helpful person; he volunteered at the Towns County Food Pantry for a number of years and was always willing to step in to help anyone. Pops liked to tease his lovely wife, and those who knew him had often heard him say things his family fondly remembers like "Back in the day" and "You play, you pay." Mr. Murray is preceded in death by his parents Thomas and Constance Murray; son Wayne Edward "Skip" Murray Jr; brother Tim Murray and sister Janet Murray.
Surviving Mr. Murray is his loving wife Phyllis (LaLonde) Murray; daughter Jill Gardella; son and daughter-in-law J.R and Amy Murray; grandchildren Garrett Murray, Brock Murray and Abigail Gardella; brother and sister-in-law Dale and Diane Murray; sister-in-law Kathy Murray (wife of the late Tim Murray) along with a number of loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Family will receive friends Saturday, June 8, 2019 10:00-11:30 in the chapel of Banister Funeral Home.
Memorial service will be Saturday, June 8, 2019 at 11:30 at Banister Funeral Home with Rev. Keith Acker officiating.
