William Payne Hopkins; age 87 of Hiawassee, GA; formerly Fort Valley, GA; passed away Tuesday, December 8th, 2015 following a brief illness. Mr. Hopkins was born November 2, 1928 to the late William Homer and Dollie Payne Hopkins in Fort Valley, GA. Mr. Hopkins graduated from Fort Valley High in 1945 and went on to graduate from Southern School of Pharmacy, now Mercer University College of Pharmacy, in 1949. He was a member of Mt Pleasant Baptist Church in Hayesville, NC and was a Free Mason.Â
Mr. Hopkins is proceeded in death by his late wife of 38 years, Mrs. Jeannine Byrd Hopkins and brothers; George and Joseph Hopkins.Â
Survivors include his wife Phyllis Teschke Hopkins; sons Mark and Susan Hopkins of Brooks, GA; Douglas Hopkins of Atlanta, GA and Joseph and Kathy Hopkins of Norcross GA; sister, Geraldine Forrester of Tullahoma, TN; grandchildren Kevin and Heather Scott of Kennesaw, GA; Joseph Dean and Courtney Hopkins of Jacksonville, FL and Jordan Hopkins of Norcross, GA; great grandchildren Karson and Hudson Scott of Kennesaw, GA and Aubrey Hopkins of Jacksonville, FL.Â
The family will receive friends at 1:30PM at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church located at 50 Marvin Cabe Lane, Hayesville, NC with a memorial service starting at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 11th. Rev. Chad Chandler will officiate. Interment will be at a later date in the Oaklawn Cemetery in Fort Valley, GA.Â
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Mt Pleasant Baptist Church or the American Heart Association.Â
